Music Therapy
What is Music Therapy?
Music therapy is a discipline in which credentialed professionals (MTA) use music purposefully within therapeutic relationships to support development, health, and well-being. Whether you are seeking support for developmental growth, emotional regulation, or mental health, our music therapists meet you exactly where you are
What Happens in Music Therapy?
In the music therapy process, the therapeutic relationship allows the therapist to create individualized programs for each person, individually or in a group. We begin with an assessment to identify your goals, strengths, and needs, and then implement a treatment plan that evolves with your progress.
Music therapy helps to improve:
- Cognitive Skills: Focus, engagement, and memory.
- Social Skills: Turn-taking, relationship building, and communication.
- Physical Goals: Motor skills, coordination, and body awareness.
- Emotional Wellbeing: Awareness, expression, and regulation.
- Mental Health: Coping strategies and resilience.
- Quality of Life: Creating meaningful, joyful experiences.

Our Techniques
Our sessions are tailored to your interests and comfort level. You do not need musical training to participate; it is the therapist’s role to facilitate the music in an accessible and safe way.
Techniques include:
- Singing and vocalizations
- Active instrument playing (group or individual)
- Songwriting and lyric analysis
- Movement and music
- Music-based processing and discussion
- Music relaxation and mindfulness
Understanding Our Approach: Music Therapy vs. Music Psychotherapy
We offer both Music Therapy and Music Psychotherapy to ensure we can meet the unique needs of every client. Because our team includes Registered Psychotherapists (RP), we can provide a broader spectrum of care.

Music Therapy (MTA)
Individuals seeking support for developmental, physical, or social growth, as well as general mental wellbeing.
- Focus: Developmental milestones (e.g., communication, social skills, self-regulation), cognitive support, and overall emotional wellness.
- Approach: Can be verbal or non-verbal. It is highly effective for clients who may find traditional talk therapy difficult to access or engaging.
- Typical Clients: Children and adults with neurodivergence (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder), developmental disabilities, or those looking for an expressive, creative way to manage daily life stressors and grief.
Music Psychotherapy (RP)
- Best for: Individuals navigating in-depth mental health challenges that require specialized psychotherapeutic training.
- Focus: In-depth mental health concerns, including anxiety, trauma, abuse, and complex emotional processing.
- Approach: Uses music as a core component of the counseling process. These sessions are generally more focused on verbal processing and specialized therapeutic intervention as regulated by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
- Typical Clients: Youth and adults who need a safe, creative bridge into traditional talk therapy to process deeper emotional experiences or diagnosed mental health conditions.
