Art Therapy
What is Art Therapy?
Art therapy is a discipline in which credentialed professionals use the creative process purposefully within therapeutic relationships to support development, health, and well-being. Whether you are seeking support for developmental growth, emotional regulation, or mental health, our art therapists provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your inner world.
What Happens in Art Therapy?
In the art therapy process, the therapeutic relationship is the foundation of the work. Our therapists assess each individual's unique needs, strengths, and goals to create a personalized program.
We provide a welcoming environment where children, youth, and adults can use visual materials to communicate, explore, and heal—often finding clarity in the process when words feel difficult or insufficient.
Art therapy helps to improve:
Self-Expression: Gaining new ways to explore and share your inner world.
- Self-Esteem: Building confidence through creative achievement and discovery.
- Social Skills: Enhancing communication and understanding through shared creative experiences.
- Resilience: Developing healthy coping strategies for stress, grief, and change.
- Cognitive Development: Supporting focus, problem-solving, and perspective-taking.

Our Techniques
You do not need to be an artist to participate in art therapy; it is not about the final product, but the process of creating it. Our sessions are tailored to your interests and comfort level.
Techniques include:
- Drawing, painting, and sketching
- Sculpture and clay work
- Collage and mixed media
- Printmaking and digital arts
- Guided visualization and creative reflection
- Symbol-making to explore complex feelings
Understanding Our Approach: Art Therapy vs. Art Psychotherapy
We offer both Art Therapy and Art Psychotherapy to ensure we can meet the unique needs of every client. Because our team includes Registered Psychotherapists (RP), we can provide a broader spectrum of care.
Art Therapy
Individuals seeking support for developmental growth, social-emotional learning, and general wellness.
- Focus: Building coping strategies, emotional expression, social-emotional learning, and developmental support.
- Approach: Highly effective for clients who benefit from hands-on, non-verbal, or creative engagement rather than traditional talk therapy.
- Typical Clients: Children and youth with neurodivergence (e.g., Autism, ADHD), developmental delays, or those experiencing day-to-day life stressors (school transitions, friendship challenges, grief).
Art Psychotherapy (RP)
Best for: Individuals navigating in-depth mental health challenges that require specialized psychotherapeutic training.
- Focus: In-depth mental health concerns, including trauma, complex abuse, anxiety, and depression.
- Approach: Uses art as a core component of the counseling process. These sessions are generally more focused on verbal processing and specialized therapeutic intervention as regulated by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
- Typical Clients: Youth and adults who need a safe, creative bridge into traditional talk therapy to process deeper emotional experiences or diagnosed mental health conditions.
Is Art Therapy Right for You?
You do not need to have any artistic talent or background to participate in art therapy. It is our job to facilitate the creative process in a way that is accessible to everyone.
If you are unsure if art therapy is the right path for your family, our clinicians will help you identify the best approach—whether Art Therapy or Art Psychotherapy—during your initial consultation.
